Manx or not??

Question
I got a kitten from a rescue about a year ago.  she has no tail and i have been doing reseach on her breed.  from what i have read her physical descrption fits that of a Manx however, her personality does not.  she talks alot like a Manx but she is very mean.  the only way the vet will treat her is to sedate her while she is still in her carrying case.  i have two other cats one was adopted with her and she gets along well with her however, the new kitten i just introduced has become the target of her aggression. she hisses at her and bats her constantly.  also she is over a year old and just learned how to jump onto the counter tops.  i am not sure if she is a manx or just a very mean tailess longhair.  she gets along with me and she loves my boyfriend but she is very tempermental she does not like to be held or touched unless she wants that attention.  does this sound like a Manx gone bad or just an ill tempered tailess longhair.  by the way she hates water and i have heard the Manx likes water.

Answer
Wanda,

Not all tailless cats are Manx.  The Manx gene is in the feral population and, in certain areas, especially, tailless cats are common.  It is doubtful that she is a pedigreed Manx!

The difficulty you face is that with a rescue kitty, you do not know what the cat's history is.  She may have been abused.

As to getting along with the kitten, it sounds to me as if she really might be.  Cats do play awfully roughly with each other (they have incredibly tough skin).  So, what you are interpreting as aggression may be rough play.  If the kitten really objected, it would find away to stay away from her!

I think in time with plenty of love and attention, she may get more socialized to people.

BTW, I have never found a good way to keep cats off the counter once they set their minds to it!!!!!

I think she is doing well and many kudos to you for rescuing these kitties.

Best regards... Norm.
