Question
Hello, I was just reading an article about not having a cat if you cant afford it. I do agree to a point. Iam a 62 year old widow and 3 years ago adopted wonderful kitty i named charlie. He had been terribly abused, and it affected his stomach because of starvation. When he became sick i took him to the vet, he was there for a week, and it cost 600 dollars. That is only a little less than my monthly widows pension. When i got charlie i had more money. I do not have the kind of money the vets here charge, they rarely let you make payments. My question is, am i suppose to give away charlie, hes my family, i love him now. What should i do? Thank you Pat G

Answer
well no you dont have to give him away. if he is an indoor only cat and you absolutely never let him outside, he will not have to have yearly shots. but should have a yearly check up. what you need to do is start yourself a "catfund" in a coffee can or something. everytime you get a paycheck put as much as you can afford in the coffee can. this will become the money you use to pay the vet. dont use it to buy food or anything, his food should be included in with your groceries. however if you have to give him away, go to www.petfinder.com and contact an agency in your state that will take him and NOT kill him, but will keep him until they find a home for him. i hope this information helps you.
