2 male neutured cats urinating everywhere

Question
i have a 4yr old and a 7yr old male cats;  They both have urinary infections and it's been ongoing for the past 3-4yrs;  They have been on Clavmox and now they are on Beatril;  They pee everywhere, including the litter box but just not all the time;  The antibiotics do not seem to be getting rid of the infection good enough b/c it keeps relapsing;  I am to the point that I now face my husband asking if we need to get rid of them;  This will break my heart but I just don't know what else to do;  I have spent soooo much money on these two b/t vet bills and medicine.  The vet just told me today that after being on two weeks of beatril she see's no difference in their infection so we will go another week or two and see how that goes;  been there, done that already and it just came back again;  sometime we can go two months with no peeeing and sometimes it is right away or within a week or two of stopping the meds;  Now my 7yr old has become so aggressive and grouchy to the point that all the two do is hiss, growl and fight so bad I have to seperate them;  I know it's probably b/c they don't feel good but do you think his attitude will change over time if we figure this out;  My vet keeps wanting to push a behavioralist on me at like $150 for one visit and i just can't see spending that right now, can't afford it after all these visits;  do you think the 4yr old will calm down too with age?  he is so spunky and wants to run and jump the bigger older cat and i think the older one is just done with the playing stage and it irritates him on top of how he already feels.  i know this is a lot to take in but i am just at a dead end and it kills me to think i might have to get rid of one or both if we can't find a solution;  Anything????

Answer
Hi Angel,

The best advice I can give you to help is to change their food from a dry diet to an all wet food diet. Diet plays a big part in urinary tract infections and kidney problems. Make sure the wet food has no grains in it. Try using Wellness, Nature's Variety, or Evo. Read the labels and make sure they have no grains in them. This should help them immensely in clearing up the infections and keeping them clear. The younger one will calm down with age. You can also try a product called Feliway. It acts as a kitty tranquilizer. Good luck and let me know what happens.

Ciao, Karen
