Question
i have three cats, onyx being the newest addition. onyx and another one of my cats (the oldest) have started fighting very violently, my mom says that we have to get rid of onyx because he is going to kill my older cat muni. she told me that she talked to a couple of vets and they told her to get rid of him. i would like to know if i have to get rid of him because he really is dangerous or just because my mom doesn't like him. he isn't neutered. his jaws quiver when he is attacking muni. does that mean he is trying to kill her or that there is something else going on. he is sexually active with my third cat mond as well. will getting him fixed help? muni is also fixed.

Answer
Corey,

This is a time of year when female cats are in season.  Thus, entire males are much more aggressive since they can hear entire females calling. It is most likely that Onyx is trying to breed Muni, and Muni is objecting.  Neutering Onyx will make for a more peaceful coexistence of all your cats.

So, yes, getting Onyx fixed will help, then you will still have a few weeks while all of your cats figure out how to inter-relate to each other.

Cats can make a whole lot of noise and even loosen up some fur, but, for the most part, they are not really going to hurt each other.  Unless someone is drawing blood or there are bite marks on Muni, I would not consider Onyx dangerous.  One last caveat is that when entire males mount, they will grab the scruff of the female's neck in their teeth, so I would ignore any sign of bite marks on the scruff.

Once Onyx is fixed, you will have to ignore any noise you here and make sure you do not interfere while your three cats work out their inter-relationships.  Human interference, separating them, disciplining them will all be the worst things you could do while they adjust to one another.

Good luck and best regards... Norm.
