my moms cat

Question
I am sending this question on behalf of my mom. She has a cat that has become their cat. he was left behind by his previous owners when they moved. we don't know his exact age. Today my mom said that he was hiding under the couch and then when he got out from underneath it, she said it was like he couldn't walk forwards. she said he would walk backwards a few steps and fall down..then walk a couple more steps backwards and then fall down again.
Any suggestions??

It is possible your mom's cat had a stroke. With cortisone, cats have made amazing recoveries.

There is also a possibility of an inner ear infection which acts like a stroke, or even a brain tumor.

This is a situation where you need to take the cat to the vet where they can runs some neurological tests.

Keep food and water close, and maybe get a pad that the cat can go to the bathroom on.

Hopefully the poor kitty will recover. If not, he is going to take some very special care, lots of help, plus all the love and encouragement you can give him.

Please give me an update after you go to the vet.
