Question
Dear Dr Ray
First of all thank you for all the great answers . here's another question for you :
How comes a white Persian's eyes happen to go blue or odd (one blue and one orange) while none of their parents looks like this ?
my white tomcat who has orange eyes had mated with a bio-color queen with orange eyes few months before. last night we discovered that 2 of the 6 kitten (which are now 2 months old) have very weird eyes . one of them which is a white female has both blue eyes and the other one which is a white male has odd eyes . we are astonished as we had not expected this at all . how can it happen ?
Thank you so much

Answer
Hi Soheil
Now this is all down to genetics
Odd eyed white cats are prone to deafness in the ear with the blue eye IN MOST CASES BUT NOT ALL.
If the white cat has two blue eyes the chances are very high that the cat will be totally deaf.
I would suggest that you get audiological tests done on the kittens to determine if they are deaf as soon as possible.

I would also suggest that if they are then you must consider not repeating the mating for fear of producing similar litters again.

Remember cats that are deaf should be protected from outdoors as they cannot hear any noises like traffic, or dogs etc. They can live long active lives but unfortunately they should not be bred from as they cannot hear their own kittens crying.

Please let me know what the outcome of any tests are.

Ray
