Question
Hi, okay I have a young cat that when we got her off the streets she was heavily pregnant, she was producing milk and a week later she had the kittens. well, she slipped out and got pregnant again(my vet was out of town so we tried to wait...not happening again. well she is not due this week I suspect. she is HUGE. and she is not producing milk, her teets are large and pink, but no milk. should i be worried? do i need to go ahead and buy formula?

Answer
Hi Emily

You need to count 9 weeks from the time she came into season and slipped out.  Are you sure she is pregnant (can you see the kittens moving).  I ask, as her teats may be large and pink still from her first litter.  If she is, then some cats produce milk when they actually have kittens, some produce before.

Even if she does produce milk, its always a good idea to have some formula to hand so that you are prepared should she not have milk or not enough.

Marcia.
