Question
QUESTION: Hi,

Wow I'm excited!! LOL Finally my persian female (14 months) came into heat!! so I decided to let her mate with a proven stud since this is her first mating experience... But I don;t know whats going on now... she would rise her hind body for the male, but as soon as he approaches she would hiss at him.. I finally got her to calm down by talking to her... but when the male gets on top of her she would try to hiss and make growling noise.. they would stay in that position for a while while the male holds her down by the neck until she cries and try to strike him; then she would start rolling over for a few seconds, then she would get up and rise her hind body again for the male... and the same thing happened now twice or 3 times in a row.. after wards she started to get aggressive so I broke it off.. Luckily I recorded the whole thing on camera!!
you can view on youtube if this would help, here's the link:

but I am confused now!! did she mate or not?? she is until this moment in heat and calling.. I really need your advice since i am a beginner in this.. I'm worried that if I wait too long she would come out of heat..

Thanks alot

ANSWER: Hi Blaze

Thank you for filming the event as it gave me much more idea of what is happening.  I am not totally sure that she is deflecting her tail which is obviously impeding him getting to the 'spot'.  It could be that she doesn't feel ready yet.  He also tends to start high up on her back and then shuffle down but again I'm not sure he's getting far enough down.  He should know what he is doing if he is a proven stud but some do start high and then work they way down to the right point and it seems like they are taking forever to get there.

Doing stud work is not just a case of putting a boy and girl together, the stud owner sometimes needs to work with the boy as a partnership.  It may be that you will need to talk to your girl and reassure her by tickling her chin etc. to take her mind off what is happening.

If this is her first heat then it will all be strange to her and she is acting appropriately.  It can sometimes take a few days for the girl to get to know the boy and finally accept him so don't worry too soon.  In the UK we tend to separate the male and female with a wire partition until they have got to know each other and then let them together.  Your girl is probably finding it very strange but will mate when she gets to know him a little more.  It might even be better to leave her until her next heat.  Its usual to wait for the second heat.

QUESTION: Thank you for the response.

but what about the rolling over after he releases her? does this indicate penetration?
Also, yes I noticed she calms down when I talk to her, but never tried to pet her in such situation. Won't she bite me? LOL If I try to help the stud and guide him through won't he attack me or something?

btw, this is not her first heat. Her first heat was in late July. Beleive me, she is going nuts with this heat thing.. whenever I touch her, or even talk to her, she would raise he hind legs and squeek!! she calls all night long for days now!! When the tom investigates her rear area, she rightaway takes the mating position. She also enjoys him sniffing her rear end as she start moving her hind legs  back and forth! Doesn't this also indicate that she is ready?

Thanks

ANSWER: The rolling over that I have seen on the video does not indicate penetration and indeed I watched very carefully and he didn't penetrate.  You will know when he does as there will be frantic thrusts for about 30 seconds or so and he will then jump off.  She may then react extremely violently (and yes if you are holding her let her go quickly at this point) and will throw herself around a lot more and will wash her rear end a lot.  She didn't display any of this on the video.

She certainly sounds ready but may be she needs some reassurance to hang on in there till he makes contact.

I think it may be a good idea if you could find yourself a mentor locally who has experience with studs and can come over and help you.  There is nothing better than hands on experience in the flesh.

QUESTION: Hi again,

Well after trying several mating sessions with my persians, my female persian finally is out of heat right now! Not sure if she is pregnant or not, but I noticed something.. Maybe its my imagination, but she has been eating more often. Before mating I would fill her food plate twice a day and there would be some leftovers; but now, she eats more than triple the amount of food she used to eat!!
Also, I noticed that the area "around" her nipples and kindoff getting swollen. I can feel something around each nipple a bit smaller than a pea size!I also asked my roommate to check her nipples, and he noticed the same thing!! then again, it could be I'm imagining, but could these be pregnancy symptoms?? To my knowing, pregnancy symptoms do not appear until like 20 days after mating, and it only been like 5 days or so. Could that be possible?

Thanks

Answer
Indeed it is too early for the visual signs to be there.  My best advice to you would be to leave her alone until around 21 days from what you think was the first mating and then check her.

Her extra food intake could be a result of her not eating so much while she was in heat and she is making up for lost time.

Try to be patient for the three weeks and not check as you may be hoping so much that she is pregnant you might convince yourself that she is and then be disappointed.
