Question
okay i have a young female cat that is about 2 years old and this is going to be her 2nd litter. her first litter didn't survive but about 4 months because we put them outside and I'm guessing the owls nearby killed them. and i wont make that mistake again. but my cat doesn't like it indoors and meows very loud to be let outside and i don't want her to have her kittens outside because i don't want them to be killed. but my question is, how can i get her comfortable indoors???

thank you for your time and your advice.

Answer
The outside world is a very dangerous place to kittens and that is why feral cats have a high mortality rate.

When a cat has bee allowed freedom to come and go at will it is not always easy to confine them to the house.  Make sure that she has somewhere that is just hers that is quiet and dark and makes her feel secure.  As the kittens grow on you may like to consider letting mum have short periods of freedom but keep the kittens in.

Some cats like to be free spirits and if they have known the freedom, it is very difficult to take back that freedom.  I wonder if perhaps she might be better being neutered so that she can have that freedom.  If you still wish to breed, then have a cat that you can keep in from the start.  The saying 'what they don't know they don't miss' does apply to cats as much as anyone else.
