3 Year Old Breeding Ragdoll Has Not Gotten Pregnant, What Could be Wrong?

Question

Ragdoll Christmas
Hi:
I am a small Ragdoll breeder with a beautiful female cat that I have breeding rights for but for some reason, she has not gotten pregnant. I know it is not my male because I have one cat (out of four females) that has gotten pregnant when ever I allow her to. I am worried because my breeder gave me another female who is at breeding age finally and she too has not gotten pregnant during her second heat. I also have another female who is a year and a half and she has had three heats and has not gotten pregnant. I am beginning to think something is wrong with me...I have a very loving home and they all love me as only a Ragdoll can...what should I do next, I am getting very frustrated with having only one cat who produces kittens. Thank you for your time. Cindy

Answer
Hi Cindy

Obviously its not a problem with your boy.  I have a few things for you to consider.

1.  Could  there be some underlying infection that needs investigation?  Obviously one for the vet.

2.  Are the cats from the same breeder?  Are they from the same parents?  If so there may be some genetic influence here or some incompatibility with your boy.

3.  Have you witnessed the matings?  If not, could it be that the girl is rolling away from your boy before he actually mates so may need some help from you to keep her upright?  Are they being receptive to him when in heat or do they get a bit aggressive which can put a boy off? Or it could be that he feels he is too familiar with the girls if he lives with them - it has been known for that to happen.

It may be worthwhile taking one of your girls to another stud to see if that might work so that you can get a litter from them and at least know that they are not infertile.

Marcia.
