Mating during pregnancy

Question
Hi I have a problem, you see my male cat still wants to mate my female cat. We would often see him biting the nape of the my female cat and start going over her in a mating position. I  am worried about the kittens inside her. Would their be a problem? Would there be any chance of the kittens dying because of the mating? We cant monitor them always since we are usually at work. please help. thanks.

Answer
Hi Kitkat
Two things to consider
First
The continual mating could damage the foetus as they are developing and to understand why this could happen you need to understand about feline reproduction.
Queens only release their eggs when they are copulating not like humans who have monthly periods. So continual mating may encourage they queen to continue to release eggs. This process also causes her body to release hormones to support this so eggs could be released and pregnancy interrupted
Second
The tom is sexually active almost continually so he will want to mate all the time. I would suggest you consider either placing the tom in a separate stud house away from the queen to allow her time to gestate or buying a feline nappy and putting him in it every day when you go out. It will discourage him eventually from trying to mate
