Dry Nipples

Question
I have a pregnant cat and when I checked her, her nipples where very dry. Should I be worried? What does that mean?

Answer
Hi there,

If I'm right, what it actually is is not dry skin at all but a waxy like substance that builds up on the nipples of pregnant cats.  The first time I saw it I thought it was dry skin as well but this substance (I am not sure what it's made out of) is very normal and is there to protect the nipples from sharp little baby claws once the babies are nursing.

If you take your fingernail it should sort of flake off, don't take it all off though as mentioned it is there for a reason.
