my wife and I have been living in Seoul, Korea for two years and met a couple moving back to Brooklyn who had to give up two Turkish Angoras, we took them and everything was going wonderful for 6 weeks, they were out and very social all the time (i thought this ruled out stress or depression), but now the prior "Alpha male" is usually in hiding and today I noticed his urine is bright yellow...we are going to take him to the vet tommorow, but language barrier may be a little problem, would like to get a little heads up info...he came out for a while today and I groomed him for 20 minutes, than when I was cleaning the litter box he urinated in it and it was bright yellow...he went back under the couch...he use to be out all the time, but now he seems to be in hiding...we are worried about him and i can't find anything about flourescent yellow urine online (sidenote - he appeared to be the alpha male when they first came to live with us, but now there seems to be a role reverse)...there is no blood in the urine.  Thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. - I am a native New Yorker

Hello,

My feeling is that he is in pain and that it is either kidney problems or cystitis. In either case he should be seen by the best vet you can find immediately.  When you are uncomfortable, you do not act sweet and outgoing. I think that his behavior is a result of his poor health.

See the vet immediately!  The color of the urine is the indicator that his kidneys are in serious trouble.

Best of luck,
Barb

Thank You Barb,

Went to vet and our cat needs treatment.  Our cat does have stones in his urinary gallbladder, vet gave him two injections and then medicine to give to him orally...it is a powder we are supposed to mix with food and water, but he is not interested in taking it.  We have a syringe and we fill it with the med and water but he is stuggling and spitting most of it out...this is our first day with the medicine and of course we are going back to the vet in the morning to find a better way to administer it, but we want to know if you have advice on a better a better way to administer medicine to an unwilling patient (cat).  We are both so worried, we just want to help him get better...first thing in the morning back to the vet, but we have a little language barrier, we don't speak perfect Korean and he does'nt speak perfect English...so, I guess I am looking for a way to administer liquid meds to an unwilling cat...thank you in advance!  (he got x-rays, ultra sound, and shots at the vet...we are doing the best with what we have)  P.S. - first stop in the morning is the vet for more help.

Answer
Get some food that he adores and add the powder to a very small portion until he eats it. Otherwise, ask the vet for  pills.  If he will not eat the food bcause of the taste, put the powder into a tiny amount of food, perhaps baby meat or even butter to make a small lump. Then wrap him and make him open his mouth and insert it. I know that this can be traumatic to you and the cat, but if he is a reasonably gentle cat, you can get it into him sooner or later.
Good luck!
