Question
Hi. I just got an abandoned cat on May 5th 2007 and I have figured out she is pregnent. I have a male kitten whom I know did get to her before he was fixed but he is now. Being only June 14th so about 39 days or so in the pregnency that I would think of only stemming from my male cat..She is pretty big. A bit of background history: I rescued her in may and she was housed with another individual for 2 months before. Now this guy had 3 other cats but all girl. Being the new one and the cat he lease intended to keep he would let her outside on the Balcony...Is it possible that she could have met another boyfriend and already have been pregnant? I have been able to feel the babies for a few weeks now. not nessacerily moving but I can feel them..Her Nipples are Huge but they arent really balding around..Maybe slightly..Her belly is big. when she sits she kinda opens her legs a but more to widen them so its comfortable. Shes always very talkative but more soo lately alot. Today I noticed that when she got up from sitting their was a pool of mucous and a teeny tiny bit of blood nothing that was too much of a concern for me or at least i think. Over the last week you can touch her stomach but its coming slowly to the point where you cannot because she will cry and hit you.shes very affectionate and needy even more so. She head buts me is all over me. If i dont pay attention to her after i give her attention then she winez ALOT. Is this normal? Ive also noticed that she has been a bit floppy..she is active jumpin on the ledge but i THINK that may be getting a bit hard her. But she will be somewhat active but other then that she is lying on my bed or on a cushion box right beside my bed...Is this a sign? She is only about a year old but she has a frame of a 6month old...What do i do? I know she keeps trying to go in my drawers and in the cupboards and she likes high places and im convinced she thinks its ok to have her kittens in the top shelf of my closet so I blocked it off. I am very new at this and a youth with 3 cats. Ive rescued and raised them on my own with little money for the vet only food litter toys. they get tons of love. Can you help me with my concerns and give me some hints/ tips and warning signs i need to look for..A vet offered to abort the process to get her fixed but i cannot gather myself to do that...am I right wiht that..Please help me

Answer
Hi your cat may have been pregnant before your male kitten got to her. So all you can do is keep your eye on her very carefully. Also try to get her to nest at floor level, maybe under a bed or in a warm cupboard. Because she is searching for a nest she is very close indeed and may have the kittens at any time.
Once she has had the kittens please think about being a responsible carer, and have her neutered to prevent unwanted kittens coming in the future. I know they look nice but in my view you should only breed kittens that you can afford to keep and being on a low income I think you don't need more cats.
Also please do ask any new owners who take the kittens to consider having them neutered as soon as a vet will.
I do hope all is well with your cat, I know that you will love her and wish all of you well
