Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old seal point siamese, her name is Gidget. I borrowed a friend of mines Persian flame tip to breed her, he is 13 months old. I saw them successfully mate on Sept 20. Her "I'm in heat" cat call stopped about 4 hrs after mating.  Her 65 days should be up today Nov 25. But my concern is that since the 3rd week she has doubled her food and water intake a day. She never showed any signs of pinking and her belly hasn't gotten very big. I would compare it to a baseball.  Also she hasn't gone back into heat since mating in Sept. Her tummy is hard and it feels like there could be a kitten in there.  I'm use to a barn cat that had 6 kits at a time and looked like a large grapefruit. She has gotten more lovey over the past week and insists on sleeping right beside me. Could she be pregnant with just 1 kitten?? This would be her first litter. She also has gotten a ton clumbser she has cut her jumps shorter than she use to and tends to fall when perched in the window. I plan to take her to the vet Monday if there are no kittens by then just to make sure my baby is ok.  She also did this thing yesterday wher she got in my laundry basket and had her front feet up on the sides but he back legs bent and she let out this blood curtleing cry like someone had just ran her over. I work 3rds and it woke me and I went rushing over to her wondering if she was injured. She was fine after that and curled up with me and took a nap.

Answer
Hi Leah

It could be that she is only having one kitten and that it is tucked high up.  I did have a Birman who didn't look like she was having any kittens until around 24 hours before she had one kitten.

I don't know why she cried out as you describe as if she was going into labour this would have carried on and you should have seen a discharge by now.  However it is worth remembering that a Persian head is a lot larger than a Siamese so if she does start to give birth, it may take a lot more effort than if the father were a Siamese.

I don't think I would leave her until Monday before seeing the vet as there is a chance that if there is only one kitten, her hormones may not kick in as well as if she had more there.  I would take her on Friday to have a scan to see if she has any kittens in there and then discuss with the vet what he thinks the way forward should be if there is a kitten in there.

I wish you luck with Gidget and hope to hear all is well in due course.

Marcia.
