Question
Dear Barbara,                                   My question is about Turkish Angoras but first I will describe my situation.I have never had a cat but played with neighborhood cats my entire childhood and visited my father frequently who has cats.I have had every other kind of pet you could think of including snakes, lizards, frogs, parrots, finches, rabbits and fish.I have a Miniature poodle whom I love right now.I also have a wonderful Cockatiel parrot and a guinea pig and a fully covered aquarium. My poodle is shedless, elegant, quiet, clean, small and lightfooted simalar to a cat.My poodle also plays with a friendly neighborhood cat when we go on walks and when I let the cat inside our home for a can of tuna.I have reasearched many breeds of cat but the only cat that truly appeals to me is the purebred White blue eyed female Turkish Angora! What are they like to live with? Will they let you pick them up and sit in your lap like Ive heard ragdolls do?Are they "talkative"?I work in a pet grooming shop and see many cats being shaved down because of matted fur.Do Turks have as much of a problem with matted fur as Persians do?Are Turks too "feisty" to brush/clip nails? What about baths, do they like water? We bathe a lot of cats who are uncontrollable in the grooming shop I work in so Id just like to know. Can my Turk stay in a large cat cage with shelves during times I am gone? Will my Turk come when called, learn tricks and walk on a harness? My uncle has a problem with his cats spraying urine in his house even though he got them neutered/spayed early.Do Turks bite, scratch, spray urine often?Do Turks hide most of the time? How affecionate and playful are they?Thank you very much!

         Sincerely,
       Claire P.

Answer
Hi,

The cat thast you are describing is the Cadillac of the Turkish Angora.
The breed in general are very loving, playful, intelligent, sweet, active, loyal and want to be with you all the time. If you have a loving poodle, the temperament of the best angoras is very similar. They adore their owners but like all the visitors and family members too.
They are controllable if you get a sweet one that is raised to the bath from kittenhood. They are not hard to manage if you do it right and with respect for them.
