do you think my cat is pregnant?

Question
Hi, my name is Ang and I recently took in a stray that my neighbor had abandoned when they moved out, didn't really know them, but another neighbor had told me he thought she had maybe 4 months ago, not sure how true that is.  So I've had her since June 5th and all is fine (we've been to the vets for a checkup). Last Sunday i was gone all day and when I came home i picked her up and noticed her belly felt really big! Since we've had her i have noticed her belly getting bigger, but i just figured because she hadn't eaten for 3 days when she was alone that she was just filling up :). So a little while later i noticed when i was petting her, her nipples were big, and i just don't know if i just never noticed before or what. I guess i'm just really curious if she's pregnant or if she's just fat with big nipples from her past litter (do they stay big?). I've never had a cat before, so i have no idea what the signs are, and if she's not what else could it be? do you think you could help me? I'd really appreciate it :). thank you so much.

Answer
Hi Ang
Your little friend could be pregnant but it would be difficult to know just how far down the line she is without a vet having a look at her. You said you took her to the vet for a check up I wonder if you might want to go back and ask the vet to do a pregnancy test to confirm her condition. The fact that her nipples are large suggests her being pregnant. If you squeeze them gently and get milk from them then she is certainly acting like a mother and may well be pregnant.
Now normal pregnancies in cats last 65 days approximately so  if she is pregnant that she could be due in the next two weeks, but you need a vet to look her over to confirm.
Good luck
