Moving kitten that is only 15 hrs old

Question
My cat gave birth last night at about 10:00 PM to one kitten (that is all she had) and she gave birth in our living room on the floor (she would not stay in box) we have another male cat and I feel that this is not the safest place for her and her baby but if I try to move her and the kitten she immediately takes it back to the spot she gave birth. Do you have any suggestions? Thank You.

Answer
Hi Julie
set up a kittening box on the spot and encourage her to go inside to nurse the kitten. Also ensure the male cat cannot get into the room.
You need to ensure the area is kitten proof by blocking any small holes and of course put up barriers to prevent the kitten actually wandering off and hurting itself. Also make sure the room is warm and that the box has a heater pad and some dry nesting material inside.
If this is a problem then move the cat, kitten and box into another room and trap her in there along with a litter box, water bowl and food bowl. She will have to stay there until the kitten is about 4 weeks old when it should be able to wander around the house without too much trouble
You must persevere it is the only way I am afraid
Good luck
