Question
I have a new puppy that was just shipped from Alabama, and on his third day he started having bowel movements that were runny and looked like they had mucus in them.  Should I have him examined, or is this part of him adjusting?

Answer
Hi John!  Congrats on the new puppy!  I would definately take him to a veterinarian as soon as you can get him in.  When shipping puppies, their electrolytes crash to a dangerously low level, and it just stresses out their entire system.  A vet visit, for a bill of good health, is always a must with a puppy, especially if it's been shipped.
Mucus in the bowel movements is a sign of an intestinal parasite, which is, of course, always the case with puppies.  Your veterinarian will simply give him some medication to rid his body of the worms.
I hope this helps and enjoy your adorable new companion!  If you have time, please keep me posted as to how he does...and what kind of puppy? (just out of curiosity)
Give him tons of welcome home kisses and hugs for me!
