Cats - Urination

Lately our cat has been urinating in our laundry hamper - when it is full of clothes.  (Doesn't seem to matter if the clothes are clean or dirty).  She is three years old and we had this problem with her over two years ago - she used to urinate in the laundry room on whatever clothes were on the floor.  However, she stopped this behavior for a couple years, and has just started up again in the last week or so.  She does not urinate anywhere else in the house, only in laundry hamper.  I usually put the hamper in a closet where she can't get at it, but last night I forgot and awoke to a hamper full of cat urine.  This is the standard plastic hamper about a foot and a half high.  However, this morning, I also caught her sitting in our other hamper, it's a cloth bag on a wooden frame, about three feet tall!  There was hardly anything in it, but she was sitting in there, and sure enough, when I lifted her up, she had urinated.

Is there any discipline/aversion therapy we can try?  She has a clean litterbox that is private; we have no other animals.

First thing you should do is take a urine sample to the vet to rule out any urinary tract infection or feline lower urinary tract disease (crystals) as she may be urinating inappropriately as to try to tell you she doesn't feel well.

Secondly, I would recommend another litter box.   Scoop both daily and clean with hot soapy water every 1-2 weeks.  Make sure the food dishes are not close to the litter boxes.  When you see her use the litter box praise her and give her a special treat when she comes out.  If you catch her going elsewhere, squirt her with a water bottle.  And best thing is to keep laundry locked in the closet so it is not accesible to her to go on.

Also, I would encourage you to get FELIWAY/Comfort Zone Diffusers for the house to help reduce underlying anxiety that could be contributing to the problem.
