Question
Hi, I rescued an 11 week Neapolitan mastiff who had been in her crate 24/7 for the first ten weeks of her life.  We have had her fixed and now she is having discharge from her vagina and sometimes it is green. The vet gave me antibiotics for her but said that this was something that we would have to deal with for the rest of her life off and on...can I give her something besides antibiotics to help her stay healthy and not go through the medicine usage. Her life is going to be short to begin with being a giant breed....I want her to be healthy as possible for the 8-9 years I hope to have her.  Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
HI Tracy
How pleased I am to read that your girl will now have a loving home environment in which to grow and flourish.
In regard to this constant infection/discharge it may be worth trying her on some Colloidal Silver (orally and topically) for about three weeks.  Colloidal Silver is naturally antibiotic and antimicrobial.  Extended use is not recommended, but for short term intervals it is fine and safe to use in recommended dosages.  I would give her orally (in food or water as recommended on bottle) and also soak a cotton ball/pad in the colloidal silver twice per day and bathe her vaginal area.  It does not need to be diluted.

You may also want to give her one course of the Puppy Acclimatization herbal blend.  This will protect her immunity, nervous system and metabolism from any detrimental effects of all the changes demanded of a new pup being separated from its mother and siblings, processed and placed in a new home. It will give her a good boost to her system.
Both these products are available from:
www.herbal-treatments.com in the "herbs for dogs" section.

Keeping her on a healthy diet is also imperative and a life-time commitment.  For longevity and good health feed only raw and natural foods.  Avoid commercial foods all together (dry, kibble and tinned).  Raw meats, raw grated veggies and a good meaty bone such as lamb neck once per week will be sufficient.  There is a company called BARF - Biologically Appropriate Raw Food and they make raw meat patties ready to go with veggies and supplements in them.  You feed them raw.  To find a distributor go to:
www.barfworld.com
There you can find your closest location.

As your girl ages (over 5 years) you would need to look at adding further high quality supplements to her diet, but at this stage getting her infection sorted out, and getting her diet off to a good start will be extremely beneficial.

While the antibiotics are necessary at times of infection, you are adding excess toxins to her body if you keep giving them to her.  Also - there is no point in giving her the same things over and over if they are not even helping with the problems.  I'm also not really sure I understand your vet's comments either....

Now in regard to fleas, worms, vaccinations - the BEST product I have ever come across for flea prevention is FLEEZE - available at www.greenpet.com.au
It is 100% natural and you start off by adding it daily to meals, but after a few months you can cut back to once per week, and in cooler weather cut back to once per month.

Worming and vaccinations should be homeopathic.  If you go to www.holisticanimalmedicines.com
they specialize in homeopathic and herbal worming products, and they also have the "nosodes" which are the equivalent of vaccinations.  They do sell a First Aid Kit which contains all this and more and works out very inexpensive.
I would probably vaccinate her initially if you feel more comfortable with this - in the first year, but after that I would stick to the homeopathic versions.

Vaccines, flea treatments and worming products are all highly toxic and cause many health problems and cancers later in a dog's life.
I do hope this was helpful and wish you and your new girl all the best.

With thanks,
Silva.
