Older cat vomiting

Question
We have an older Siamese cat who has been vomiting about every 3-4 days. It appears to be more than just hairballs, mostly liqid-(color of her food), and not a lot.  Otherwise, she acts normal and eats normal.

Answer
Hello Barb-

There could be a few things here, you said the vomit was the color of her food. She may be eating too quickly and it is not being fully digested and causes irritation. My 8 year old cat does this quite often as well. There is nothing to be alarmed about unless there is blood or heavy mucous present.

Your cat could also have a food allergy. Although she is older it is still possible. If a food allergy is present you might notice loose bowels and skin irriation. Should these signs appear take notice of what is in her food and try switching to a more natural brand of food. My cat eats the brand Nutro. It's not that expensive and can be found in most pet stores. This food helps metabolize the body and has a better quality of ingredients. Normally when cats vomit and are eating grocery store brands there vomit is usually orange or light brown. When eating natural foods the vomit is usually clear and will not stain surfaces.

Your cat may also have a digestive disorder brought on by age. If your cat continues to vomit daily, I recommend taking her to your vet for a full evaluation. You can contact me again and I will be happy to help your pet naturally with supplements that can be added to her diet for better overall health.

I don't think your pet has a pressing ilness, watch when she eats and how fast. She may also be drinking a lot of water after she eats which can cause her to vomit as well.

You may contact me at anytime at wintersaurora@yahoo.com if you have further questions or concerns. I also have a catalog of home made herbal remedies for human and animal concerns if you are interested.

Please keep me posted. If you see blood or heavy mucous in the vomit, promptly make an appointment with your vet and explain your concern.

I hope this information has helped you and your pet.

Thank you and best wishes.
