Guinea pig respiratory infection (alternate help)

Question
Hi! I recently bought a guinea from the pet shop (mostly because the recues around have none!) and it seems he has a respiratory infection of some kind (according to other things I have read on guinea informational sites) when he is not talking and squeeking, just trying to breathe in my hands, he makes a click noise on every breath in. Even worse, he is living with my sow, and I don't have an extra cage to seperate them so she doesn't get sick as well! I called the vets nearby and it Is just too expensive, $60 minimum, for the checkup! I can't imagine how much more the medicine will be tacked onto that. Is there anything I can personally do for him without going to the vet? I know I need to go to the vet but I just don't have the money right now. Any advice?

Answer
Hi Michael,

Respiratory infection very quickly can develop into pneumonia so it is imminent he be treated adequately. Here is a link that can hopefully offer some help. They of course recommend antibiotics but they have other things you can do.
Vitamin C is vitally important for guinea pigs and probiotics are used.
Hopefully this site will give you some more assistance.
