QuestionHi Jerry
We live in Austria but also spend several months of the year in South Africa. We travel to South Africa twice per year and would like to be able to take our pug with us as cabin luggage on a regular basis. I know that Lufthansa allows pets to travel in the cabin as long as they and the carrier are under 18lbs. I know the drill and have done this with her on Austrian Airlines to the USA on several occasions. Would we have to apply for the South African Import Permit twice per annum, and would the pug have to have the 4 blood tests done twice per year, as she would be entering South Africa twice (in March and then again in November)?
AnswerI know ZA ONLY allows pets to enter and leave as CARGO ONLY, NOT as excess baggage.
I would think you probably would need the 5 blood tests each time. Best for you to contact
authorities in ZA Visit: www.ipata.com for pet shippers in ZA who can also advise you
Sorry, this is the best I can advise
