Question
Hi! Eversince I transferred to my new house which was three (3) days ago, my dog has not moved his bowel yet. Did the transfer affect him?

Thanks,

Ruth

Answer
Ruth,
Most likely your dog is feeling stressed from the change of environment. I suggest you continue to monitor him, and be sure you are continually allowing him out to the area where he will be using for urinating and defecating.
If by tomorrow morning he still has not had a bowel movement, and has continued to eat regularly; than I suggest you administer him the over the counter laxative Metamucil, (1/2 teaspoon twice daily for dogs under 50 pounds and 2 teaspoons twice daily for dogs over 50 pounds).
Additionally, you can offer him a source of bran such as oat bran, or Grape Nuts Flakes cereal.
Finally, canned pumpkin is a great source of fiber that helps in solving constipation in most dogs. Offer him a few teaspoons in his regular food until he comes to have a movement.
I hope this offers some help with your concern. This is a common occurrence among dogs when they experience stress such as moving to a new home. Please feel free to get back to me with any additional questions or concerns.
