Question
I am a US resident doing mission work in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic.  I am supposed to be adopting 2, nine week old kittens in Orlando, FL this week.  I knew I needed a health certificate, but rabies shots at least 30 days before arriving in country?  I don't believe they can even get a rabies shot that early.  Can you give me accurate details and who should I speak with here in Puerto Plata?  Thanks!!

Answer
Hi, Brooke,
I'm sorry, all my research shows a 30 day prior to entering country rabies vaccine necessary for entry, and then a Dominican Republic Veterinary certificate issues by a local veterinary within 10 days of arrival to the country.

Quarantine is from 8 to 30 days, depending on country of origin.

The Office of Animal Health phone number is: 809-542-0132.

Good luck.
