QuestionHallo. Could you tell me what documents I need for bringing my dog as a carry on from Los Angeles, US to Athens, Greece? And then I need in 3 weeks to take him back to LA. Is a form EU 998 needed specifically for Greece? Also which type of microchips are acceptable for Greece? I'll also check with the Greek Embassy but please if you have this information it will help me a lot. Thank you in advance.

It always amazes me when someone wants to take a pet in the cabin,
especially for such a long trip. Why?
The pet has to be in such a small carrier as to fit under the seat.
The dog will be so much more comfortable as excess baggage.
To enter Greece: microchip Rabies vac at least 30 days old and less
than 1 yr. APHIS 7001 international health cert issued within 10 days
of travel and endorsed by usda. Also, EU form 998 English-Greek
also endorsed by usda. The microchip should be ISO 11784 or 11785
Others may be acceptable. For return to USA, another health cert issued
in Greece within 10 days of your return. Very easy for entry into
USA
What airline are you going on? Check with their passenger reservation
people for booking as ex bag or carry on
Avoid going via UK as they will require dog to travel ONLY as cargo.
