Traveling with a dog from Guinea

Question
My daughter plans to come home to the US from Guinea, a country in West Africa. She plans to bring a dog she got there with her. Will there be any quarantine or problems with this?

Answer
Hi Mary,

Thanks for your inquiry.  Your daughter shouldn't have any trouble bringing her dog home with her.  The current requirements (up to date as of October 2008) for US imports can be found here:

As long as she meets those two basic requirements, there will be no quarantine upon arrival in the states (assuming she's not going to Hawaii).  She will be able to take her dog through customs and take him home with her the same day she arrives quite easily.

Probably more difficult will be sorting out the routing for her flights back to the US as a lot of the airlines that go through Guinea are not set up to handle live animals as cargo.  But presumably she has that sorted out already.

Feel free to contact us directly if she needs any more help:  blog@petrelocation.com.

Cheers!
