Boston Terrier to Greece

Question
We have a 18lb Boston Terrier that we want to travel to Greece with this August.  Everytime we call the airlines, we get a different answer.  I refuse to allow my dog to be put in cargo for over 10 hours in August.  Can you advise of some general guidelines to follow with traveling with him as a carry on?

Answer
I think the airlines are becoming more pet friendly, although they are financially hurting.  Keep calling, and try to get things in writing.  It is possible a European air line maybe friendlier than a domestic.  I have heard that in general Europeans expect dogs to be better trained and are more tolerant of them in public.  If he is not obedience trained, do so, either a class or out of a book.

If he isn't used to being in a crate, I would start now getting him used to one of the plastic airline approved ones.  The small one he will hardly have room to stretch out in should meet carry on size.

A dog that has not been crated since it was little, make take some work.
Start out just putting its toys and treats in the crate.  Praise it for going
in.  If you have been able to trust it with any bedding, put that in the crate.
Feed it in the crate.
