Converting fresh to salt water

I recently converted my 10 gallon fresh water to salt water. I put new water in the tank but i did not change or rinse my filter media. Can the same beneficial bacteria from fresh water survive going to salt? Or do new bacteria need to accumulate?

Hello Rich,

you really need to strip out all of the WET componenets that were in the fresh water system and clean them or replace them with new items.

Teh fresh water organisms and life forms will not survive, and will ultumately pollute your tank, especially a smaller tank.
