i have been keeping freshwater fish for years, and want to
set up my first saltwater tank.
i'm starting with a 55 gallon tank.
i would to know if i can put lava rock from my
freshwater tank in my new tank.
my time frame for set up is about 2 months, nice and slow.

Good question.

Yes you can use Lava Rock from your freshwater aquarium.

When you're ready to put the Lava rock in your 55 gallon saltwater tank, put it in with a few pieces of cured live rock. This will help to colonize the Lava Rock with beneficial bacteria and other micro-organisms, which will come from the cured live rock.
