Question
Hello
I have a 55 gal tank it has been running for years(very pour water conditions until now). i finally decided to start a partial reef tank.I have about 30 to 40 lbs of live rock and have upgraded from a fluval to a 75 gal wet/dry system i was thinking of adding a 10 gal sump to my system.( due to hearing about crashing tanks from  wet dry systems)  the water would be running out of my skimmer witch is in my wet dry system into a 10 gal home set up sump and then back into the wet and dry once it goes threw additional sump. What do you think.I also have been vacuming my crushed coral/sand should i not do that? The coarl on top seems to get that brownish tint from the lighting. All my test are great.I am running 2-65 watt 12000k and 2 blues.I also have a 250 watt halide on my light  system but i have been trying to get a base of Coraline algae going first .I seem to be getting some on purple on the bottom rock and a almost florescent light green on the upper rock this is two different kinds of live rock they are growing on.
Thanks a bunch for your help..

Answer
Hey Bill,

Well, where to start..??

teh wet dry filters are actually pretty good.  (please check and amke sure the bio balls or bio beads are removed).  You can replace them with live rock.

Clean any sponges or filters every two weeks, no soap, just HOT HOT water..

A sump is not necessary, but if you want it great, maybe think about using the sump as a 'refugium'.  (A place to hold some sand, and chaetos or other macro algae.)

So, it will go from the refugium to eht wet dry filter/with skimmer, back to the tank..

The coraline alage growth will happen when it haapens, cant make it first, and there are many different colors, purple being the most popular/predominant, I like green though..

Hope this helps.

let me know how things go.

Mr. Bill
