Question
Hi, can you bury the base of a tree sponge in the substrate or will that kill it ?

Thanks.

Answer
HI Mike. It is best to attach the base of the sponge to a rock rather than burying it in the substrate. You always want to reproduce any animal's natural environment as closely as possible and sponges grow on and encrust rocky surfaces. The part of the base that would be buried would not receive the proper water movement and food and there fore may start to decay which could possibly foul your tank quickly. If you are having trouble getting the sponge to stay in one place try piercing it at the base with a toothpick and wrapping rubber bands around the toothpick ends and a rock to secure it in place until it can attach to the rock properly. Once attached, the toothpick and rubber bands may be removed!
