Question
Hi I would gladly appreciate if you could tell me what kind of fish i could put with a Clown Fish. I am looking at a 29 gallon tank. Do you think that is an appropriate size tank for what i want? I would also like a Dog Face Puffer... Do they go well and, what about a Yellow Tang? For all these types of marine life, do i need any kinds of coral or anemone? Maybe live rock?   Thank you, please contact back!!!

Answer
Hello Brian. If this is your first time doing a saltwater aquarium then I think a 29 gal. is a good size to start with. Most clown fish are very hardy and make excellent tankmates to most other fish. Depending on what kind of clown fish you want you may only be able to put one in your tank as some can be a little aggressive towards their own kind. I would not recommend a dogface puffer in that size tank because they can grow to be about ten inches which is too large for a 29 gallon tank. A yellow tang would be okay however they can be a little touchy and must always have a supply of algae in their diet. Do not buy a tang that looks pale or thin. Always ask to see it feed before you purchase it. Most pet stores will gladly do this for you and if they won't then you should buy some where else. You do not need any corals or anemones to keep these fish healthy but watching a clown fish living in relation to its anemone is a blast! Live rock is not a must but it will help to establish some of the algae that the tang will require in its diet. You can also supplement this if need be with algae paper that is sold through most of your pet retailers.I hope I answered all your questions and if you have any more in this process please feel free to ask.
