Sea Anemone and angle white hair

Question
My tank is Awesome and I enjoy every minute. I noticed that I have angle white strings popping up all over the coral and rocks. also my sea anemone although it's found a safe haven it's not as vibrant as I first placed it into the tank about 6 months ago. Clown fish at first and continues to enjoy the anemone. But lately the anemone is not as full blown or bloomed like it use to. Also at night the anemone forms like a bubble. this frustrates the clown fish at night. clown fish kicks up sand to "wake up" I need a place to sleep. Please let me know what I can for both the angle white hair and sea anemone? I clean the tank bi weekly and check PH, Nitrate, salinity when changing the water. I feed the fish: Clown, Cardinal and Crone half table of shrimp brine daily. I have snails for all the clean up. Help!

Answer
Hey Robert,

Sounds like things are on track and doin what they supposed to be doin'

Im not sure about the 'angel white string' stuff... it could be some type of 'sponge'... I had something like that and it grows out like strings, but more like threads... they start from the rock, and usually have a larger base of material, that several stalks/strings come from.

if you look hard you might see 'holes' that are the orafice fromthe sponge...

Or, you might have some type of 'spaghetti worm'  if the 'strings' retract or disappear when touched or disturbed...

Pictures might help.

if they are sponge, then they are another 'sign'/indicator that your tank is doing well

If the strings become unsightly, or if they sweep across corals or other thing and irratate them, you can just pull them off, but they will grow back...

As for the anemone closing up at night.. thats what they do sometimes...it's part of thier process.. they could be digesting or expelling or something...

let the clown be upset... sometimes the clown pisses off the anem and this might be payback.. hehehehe

But, i do like how you think and imagine the what the poor clown must be thinking... I do this all the time, i call it my aquarium soap opera...

also as for how your anem 'should' look like.. it would be good to know what type of anem it is, and what it looked like originally...

Im not sure if you feed the anem... if not, you might want to feed it once a week or maybe every two weeks...

I feed either a half cube of frozen something, whateve i got, or a piece of 'silver sides'.. its a frozen fish that you can buy from your lfs...

but other then feeding it, it needs some light, but usually will find it's own 'special spot' so you might not have too much control over location...

anywys, i think it sounds like you are doing well.

Please consider logging on and joining my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com and starting a thread/discussion about your system... I have others there that would like to see and ehar more about it, and you might get some info that i might not be thining about..

good luck and hope to hear from you soon..
