QuestionWhen I went to turn my light on in my tank this morning I thought I had a crack in my tank. As I got closer I to the tank I realized that there was this little thing on the glass about 1/16th of an inch (body size) with these long tentical looking arms (approx. 20) coming out of it on all sides about 1 inch long. I have a 50 gallon tank with about 60lbs. of live rock, 2 curly cue anenomies, 1 chocolate chip starfish, 1 serpent sea star, 1 featherduster, 2 condylactus anenomies, 1 hemit crab, 1 sally lightfoot crab, 1 pencil urchin and 1 yellow gobie. I have no idea what this thing is or where it came from. I have only had my tank for 6 months and am new to saltwater marine life. If you have any clue please let me know.
Thanks JD
Answer
JD,
sounds like you have a visitor from your live rock. It may be an anenomie( I am guessing because I can't see it) because of the tentical looking appendages. It sometimes takes months for imported things that arrived in your live rock to appear. I would keep an eye on it. I do not think it's a parasite or reef worm so that is a good sign. If it makes you uneasy try bringing it to your local pet store they should be able to identify it on the spot. It's hard for me because I can not see it.
Good luck todd
