Question
Hi, I just got a used 75 gallon tank and it came with blue and yellow tangs (just one of each) I'm not sure what the nitrate or any of that is but and they are very shy. they are both 3 years old and aren't eating when I drop there flake food in they just stay in this huge pile of fiji I have for them.the blue one just comes out a little then goes back in the rock the yellow one only comes out at night. I was wondering if you could suggest some stuff or give me options of tankmates that would encourage them to be more active.

Answer
Hello Alonso,

Please check the nitrates and all that... PLEASE

It is very important.  It is like poison, and if they are suffering and or not feeling well, then that could affect thier 'shyness' factor...

Also, please let me know what you are doing for 'maintenance'?  Are you doing water changes?  are you adding / replacing water when it evaporates?

How much are you feeding, and what are you feeding.

Also what equipment came with your 75gallon tank?

as for the shyness... those fish are very freindly and outgoing, BUT, they are also smart.  They recognize thier surroundings, and know you are not the same person that has been feeding them for the past three years... they are upset and scared of you...

This will pass, (if your water conditions are ok)...  They will get used to.  to help speed that process up, please feed the same time of day, and feed them at the same spot in the tank, so they know where to go and look for food.

Try to not 'sneak' up on the tank, and let them know you are there.

My fish know me, and when i have guests over, they know it and will not be as outgoing...

good luck and pleaes let me know how things work out for you.
