Question
i have a couple of problems going on that i am trying to figure out but i don't know a whole lot about reef sytems. the first problem is slimy green algae i have snails, hermit crabs and shrimp and 2 600gph pumps that aren't touching the problem it has spread all over the bottom of my 125 gallon tank. the second issue is i recently discovered i had ich after loosing 3 fish i removed all the fish and am currently treating them with copper which seems to be working. my understanding was that if the fish were gone the ich would be also so i purchased a new fish to see if it was gone. sure enough it also now has ich how do i get rid of the problem without killing my reef?

Answer
Hey Kyle

Are you using tap water? if you are, that will cause excessive algae. start using reverse osmosis water, which is pure

You shouldnt have used copper in the main tank, its fatal to corals and inverts. you cant have corals now unless you drain and clean the tank since even trace amounts will kill them. when you get a new fish, you should have a 20g-55g spare tank that you can quarantine them in to make sure if they get sick, it doesnt get into the main tank

try feeding your current fish garlic, ick cant stand it

any follow ups feel free to ask
