Question
Hello, my name is Aaron, and I was thinking of setting up one of my aquariums as a saltwater aquarium. However I have only dealt with freshwater aquariums in the past, and have no clue how to do it. So my questions are...Would a 20 gallon bbe big enough? How do I make it saltwater? After I get it set up would Bubble and Blue mushroom coral on live rock be okay in it? Could I start cycling with a Banggai Cardinal and an Ocellaris Clownfish? Is there anything else I should know about?
Thank you for your expert advice,
Aaron

Answer
Hi there, 20Gal is big enough to start a salt water aquarium. The smaller it is, however, the more maintenance is required to keep it looking nice. Once you set it up you need to cycle the tank for 4-6 weeks feeding it with a little fish food just to get the bacteria working. I never ever recommend cycling with fish as it is not fair to them and you are likely to lose them along the way. Its poisoned water until it has the proper levels and just not fair to put an animal into it. To make it salt water you will need aquarium salt. I would highly recommend you go into a fish store which sells marine fish/equipment and get some advice about what you can buy locally to get started. They are more work and more maintenance than freshwater so you need to be prepared to put the work in. Hope this helps.
