Lavender Tang (Brown Surgeonfish)

Question
I brought home a small Lavender Tang almost two weeks ago. He adjusted fine to the tank. The other fish adjusted well as well. I have a 29 gallon tank with 3 clownfish, 1 bi-color angelfish, and a black and white damsel. I came in to the office (where my tank is) yesterday and my tang was acting odd and not eating. The bi-color angel has been hanging around it but not biting it. Now, my tang lies underneath a coral and doesn't really move. I tap the glass lightly to see if it would move and he'll swim a little then come back and lay down again. What is wrong with my fish?

Answer
its probably due to lack of space, tangs need lots of swimming room and 29gals is not enough by far! most tangs need a minimum of 150gals just because they constantly swim. you really need to take the tang back to where you got it from fast or it will die!

also you should only keep 1 pair of clownfish in a tank as when they mature they will fight. i am also supprised you have had no aggression from your damselfish, they are super territorial and aggressive!

its so important that you reserch the fish before you buy it, they are all wild caught and some are condemed to death in tanks that are way too small for them. can you imagine having the whole ocean to swim in 1 day then the next a 29 gallon box?

i don't mean to have a go but thousands of fish are taken off the reef to be bought by people who have no idea how to look after them properly, its also shocking how the fish shops never ask how big your set up is. please reserch future purchases, if you see a fish and don't know anything about it, pay for it and ask the shop to keep hold of it untill you know you have the right conditions to take care of it. if you don't ask for your money back or get store credit.
