Fiji Live Rock.

Question
I just got a Fiji live rock last week and as I have sat and examined it I have found that it has clear/white tubes with yellow/white tops growing on it in a circular pattern(kind of like a dandelion weed). I was wondering what this could be? Also I have some pink/red thick strands growing straight up on it as well that I wondered about.

Answer
heheh, hello ciara,

I love it when i am reminded of what i did and saw when i got into the hobby, thank you...

Those are mini 'feather dusters'.. they are good hitchhikers as are the other tube/strand things...

they are everywhere there is healthy saltwater systems... as thier name implies, they filter the water and strip whatever nutrients off it for themselves and clean the water at the same time...

You will have a million or two by the time you are done...

They will grow more towards the bottom and edges of the rock, not needing much light...

Have fun looking, and get a flash light and check it out at night.. (My favorite time)
