new shrimp to tank???

Question
QUESTION: I have had a 20 gal saltwater tank for roughly a year and a half... I tried googling this question and obviously it didn't work out. But I was wanting to buy either a Skunk or a Peppermint shrimp and a tricolor fairy wrasse... Will my fish(2 1.5" clowns and 2" yellow watchman)accept a shrimp or 2?? Or will they "peck" at them?? and I'm still debating on adding a fairy wrasse, because I know that other fish sometimes claim the tank as "theirs"(mine seem friendly among eachother)... So I don't know I need an outside opinion from someone who is more expeienced than I am!!

Thank You so much!!!  :)

ANSWER: Hello Bonnie,

And thanks for the compliment... (I'm second fiddle to only GOOGLE),  whoo hooo!!!

hehehe

I dont think the other fish will have issues with the shrimp...  It should work out fine.. I prefer the cleaner, (skunk) over the pepermint.. The cleaners are much more active and just out and about, vs the pep, which will just hang out and hide all the time...

The cleaner is also good for cleaning, although clowns usually dont like being cleaned... And I dont think the goby will go for it either.  Usually tangs...

As for the wrasse, but i am going to have to say that i dont think that will be a good move... They need much more swimming and hiding area then your 20 will be able to give...  70+ gallons minimum...

They also dont like a lot of light, and if yo uahve a reef tank, they may end up hiding a lot of the time, to get out of the bright lights..

They are also BIG TIME jumpers.. so you will need a lid or screen on your tank, (glass lids block out light, a good portion of it anyways... )

the wrasse is beautiful but, again, your tank is just a wee bit too small for him.

As for territorial issues, you can try adding the fish when the lights are out, so they can grab a hiding spot when the other fish are asleep or guarding thier own 'digs'...

You can also move some rocks around and switch things up so everyone is looking for a new home, and they are too busy to bully the newcomers...

Anyways, please let me know what you end up doing.

You can join my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com    we have a bunch of new members, and a couple from your neck of the wood too...

You can tell us some more about your tank and maybe, where you get your fish and stuff from.. seems there arent too many lfs in Canada, at least not near some of my other members...

anyways, hope to hear from you again

QUESTION: I do have a lid for my tank... But I was just browsing the web and I found that a Six Line Wrasse or a Mystery Wrasse can go in a 20 Gallon... Should I go for it or do you think doing that will harm it or other fish around?? I'm trying to look for a fish that doesn't really match the colours of the fish I already have...

Answer
yea, color matching fish... is kinda difficult... hehehe

j/king

Six lines will be okay, but they too would like aslightly larger tank, and they get a little bossy sometimes too.

It really is hard to say what fish may work and might be bossy/territorial...

Try reviewing the fish and thier requirements at www.liveaquaria.com

or join my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com  to talk with others and find out what fish they have...

good luck

and please let me kno wwhat you end up with..
