URCHIN

Question
I have a sea urchin in my tank that has been pretty dormant now for quite some time.  I think it is dying (or dead) but don't know how to tell.  Do the spiney legs collapse when they are dead?

Answer
Hi Lily,

You will notice the spines collapse and the many tube feet, which may also function as tiny suction cups collapse.

Another indication would be if it hasn't moved from one spot within a few hours. Sea Urchins are almost always on the move searching for food, or a mate.

P.S. You may gently nudge your urchin with your fish net, if it gives you a full lifeless response, than it has died.

Best Regards,
Dave
