A 500 gph canister filter should sufficiently filter the water for a 90 gallon fish only tank, and would be easier to initially install in terms of plumbing it.
However a wet/dry filter system in the long run would be a more efficient filter, also most wet/dry filters give you the option to retrofit aquarium apparatus like heaters, reactors, and protein skimmers should you choose to convert your aquarium to a reef in the future.
