black algae??

I have a 55 gallon salt tank that I started in May.  I have had no problem with it until now.  I purchased a rock with both an cabbage plant and a cluster of pollaps.  all of the sudden I have what looks like a black patch of mold or algae.  It started in the back by the tank wall and now it is spreading.  I have tried to remove the rock gravel to get rid of i but it only made it worse now its in more than 1 spot.  I also have a beautiful blue-green algae like what is starting to grow on my live rock and I dont want to harm it.

Hi Pat,

    Go to about.com and click on "hobbies and games", then go to saltwater aquariums at the bottom left. You will then be at the site run by stan and debbie hauter. There you will find that there are literally thousands of types of algae but they will get you to the remedy by going through their articles.
