Question
I am planning on starting a 30 gallon tank with a few clowns and some Fiji live rock. Would like to add some corals down the line. What type of lighting do you recommend? Also I will be purchasing pre cured Fiji live rock would you recommend some type of supplement. Thanks

Answer
hi, when you say a few clowns you can only keep 1 pair, any more than that and they will not get along.

as for corsl lighting i would say get 2 marine whites at a 10,000K rating and an actinic blue light. that should be suitable for soft corals. if you wan't to keep hard corals you need much stronger lighting such as metal halides of the same K rating and a minimum of 150W.

i am not sure what you mean by supliment? if you mean to get the rock cycled, you shouldnt need any. even the best cured live rock will have some die off when you transfere it from the shop to your tank, that will get the cycle started. most additives are a bit of a gimic, best thing to do is ask your local fish shop for a little cup of their sand from a tank and pop it in yours, this will get your sand on the way to becoming live.

hope that all makes sense, the tank lighting is an art on its own.
