Question
Hi have had freshwater aquariums for a 3 years and I am now interesting to try saltwater out. My department is no to big so i decide to tray a 26 gall tank. I was wandering if this size of tank is a good idea for a beginner in salt and which protein skimmer you recommend

Answer
HI Jerry. A 26 gallon tank is a good enough size to get you started in the saltwater hobby. Just keep in mind that your stocking levels are not the same as a freshwater tank and you will only be able to keep about a maximum of 1 inch of fish per 2 gallons of tank capacity( with substrate and decorations or rock your tank will not have a total capacity of 26 gallons and this stocking level is meant by the adult size the fish will eventually get not the size it is when purchased). A good protein skimmer for the beginner is either the Aqua-C Remora or the Red Sea Prism skimmer. Both of these are efficient enough for your size tank, nicely priced and easy to set up and maintain. They are both models that hang on the back and have a slim profile. I use both and really have had no problems with either except for the fact that they will need to be taken off the tank and thoroughly cleaned every 2-3 months to remain in good working condition.
