Question
Hi
I have a 120L nano tank with built in skimmer and 4 stage filtration 1 area has sponge then 3 boxes containing polo ceramics, various shell ceramics and finally small brown rocks which look like alfagrog. The tank itself has approx 6kg of live rock,2 happy clowns, cleaner shrimp and 2 hermit crabs but i am suffering from 50mg nitrate even after half tank water change, skimmer cleaned, sponge cleaned and ceramics i only use RO water. My PH is 8.2 and salt content is 1.022.I have been told by variuos people to remove the ceramics and replace with natural carbon and phosphate squares would this help reduce nitrates?..Your help would be very much appreciated

Answer
Hello Martin,

sorry for the delay.  (My house is tore up.  I had a plumbing leak, not realted to my tanks), and the contractors are now painting and my computer has been covered for a bit...)

Anyways, I agree with your friends.  You can remove the ceramic and or or plastic pieces...  (I might suggest doing this in stages...  Maybe half now, and in another week or so, the rest...

Do a water change when you remove the bio-beads/balls...

Also, btw, ... what is alfagrog????

hehehe
