White tubes in Aquarium

Question
Hi - ive had aquairums for years and never seen this.  I have a 30 gallon, salt water nano cube, had it running for about 2 months.  only have a couple of small fish and a couple of shrimp and a handful of small hermit crabs and snails.  started noticing small white tubes growing on my live rock.  the live rock i had when I added it to the tank two months ago had a few of the white tubes, now there are hundreds, multiplying quickly.  growing only on the back side and underneath side of the live rock.  about 1-1.5 centimeter long (uniform), and about the width of coffee straw (so not spaghetti worms).  looks almost like short white shag carpet.  what is this and is it harmful? thanks so much in advance for your help.

Answer
hello Ken,

Are these 'tubes' hard?  do you see any 'worm' or other critter inside them???

Could they be small feather dusters???  or hows about 'peanut' worms... usually they are inside the rock and you usually only see the worm part of them???

Are these tubes sharp?  is there a base/spiral that ends up sticking outward???

Im not sure i will be able to help much, but maybe if you can post a picture or something, I can share that with some of my other 'experts'

IF you want to join my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com  and post something there, Im sure there will be some good replys by some folks that have a bit more experience then me

good luck
and i hope to hear from you to let me know what you find out?!

thanks
