Question
hi again. after introducing my dog face puffer to the tank (only fish in there) i've noticed large amounts of feces. what is the best way to reduce this. are there any fish i should introduce that will help. is this a normal situation. it is a 125 gal. tank with white sand and this pink mess really looks bad. it is a reef tank and the puffer may eat smaller crustations. please lead me in a possible direction. thank you ralph

Answer
Hi Ralph,

What and how much are you feeding him? Puffers are pretty hungry critters and will eat a lot. Probably more than he should. We all have a tendency to feed too much and wind up with uneaten food or an overabundance of waste. There are cleanup crews you can use and they consist of hermit crabs, starfish, snails, sea slugs, etc. Go to bluezoo.com and you will find what makes up a cleanup crew for your size tank. Ther is the old fashioned way of just siphoning it out of the tank and replacing water as you do. It will help as you add clean water to the system. talk to you soon, gerry.
